The Omnipotence of God
Post by Jon | Posted in Religion | Posted on October 19th, 2007Omnipotence is a word derived from two Latin words, omni, meaning “all” or “every” and potens, meaning “might”, or “able, powerful, strong”. Literally the word means “all power”. For any Western thinker, the word immediately conjures up images or concepts common to monotheistic religions. The attribute of omnipotence is most often ascribed to the monotheistic God (among other common attributes, such as omniscience and omnipresence), and in many Western countries to the Judeo-Christian God.
The Problem of Evil
Post by Jon | Posted in Religion | Posted on October 19th, 2007This so-called problem of evil is heard by many students when they enter their college years. Philosophy teachers spout this argument to incoming freshmen each semester. It is a popular and prevalent argument. Unfortunately it is not a correct one. Let me explain to you why it is not.
Before we start, let’s define exactly what is the problem that we have with evil. Our problem is that evil exists and this contradicts Christianity’s notions of an all powerful God. You will hear the argument something like this: there are three characteristics of the Christian God. He is all-knowing (Omniscient), He is all-powerful (Omnipotent), and is all-good (Morally Perfect). Though straightforward, the problem lies in the meshing of these three characteristics. A philosopher might tell you that all of these characteristics can’t be true at the same time. The complicated words for that is the phrase ‘mutually exclusive’. All three of those characteristics cannot all be true at the same time – two of them could be true, or one of them true, but not all of them.
Scripture – From God to Man

Many people have been asked or they themselves have asked this question. It is indeed a pertinent one, and a logical one for an inquisitive mind. What does Christianity have to say about it? Well let’s dive right in and find out.
The Bible…Can we Trust It?
Post by Jon | Posted in Religion | Posted on October 19th, 2007
The Bible has been the single, most important, most influential book written since the creation of human kind. Two major world religions consider it their primary souce of God’s revelation, and countless other religions either include it or give it great significance. What is this Bible? Where did it come from? Who wrote it and why is it reliable?
Are all religions right? Can a religion be wrong?
Post by Jon | Posted in Religion | Posted on October 19th, 2007Question:
What right does anyone have to say that another religion is wrong or incorrect? What I think God is, is a highly personal thing and is different for everyone and depends on one’s views.
Christian Worldview of Evolution

In today’s time, there is a rift between science and religion like you have never seen before. No longer can one be an intelligent scientist and believe in God. No longer can we retain our intellectual integrity and still believe in such superstitions as the existence of an Almighty God. Many people forget that many of the old venerated scientists of the past were Christians and strong in their faith. Sir Isaac Newton, perhaps one of the most influential scientists of our time said “God created everything by number weight and measure.” He also said, “In the absence of any other proof, the thumb alone would convince me of God’s existence” (Quoted in Des MacHale, Wisdom ( London , 2002)). If any prominent scientist were to say this today, what would happen? The scientific community would rip him to shreds. It goes against their credo – which I would summarize in popular physicist Carl Sagan’s mantra that “The Cosmos is all that is or ever was or ever will be.”
What is Christian Apologetics?
Post by Jon | Posted in Religion | Posted on October 19th, 2007What is the meaning of the phrase “Christian Apologetics”? Well, most likely we know the meaning of the word Christian, so let’s understand the word Apologetics. It comes from the Greek word apologia, means a speech or verbal defense. Contrary to a the common use of the word ‘apology’ today, Christian Apologetics is not apologizing for our beliefs or recanting our positions – it is the branch of Christian thought that deals with answering the questions and challenges posed by the skeptic of the world and those that oppose the truth of the person of God, and his Holy and perfect Word. Apologetics can cover any number of fields: from philosophy, to physics, and biology to linguistics.
3015 – Martial Law StoryLine and Concepts
Post by Jon | Posted in Writing | Posted on October 19th, 2007
The year is 3015. Much has changed in post-apocalyptic earth. In the midst of the 21st century man spent most of his time destroying himself. Unfortunately he was very successful. Small-scale nuclear war and worldwide battles all but toppled the governments of the day – and the world was plunged into chaos. After roughly 700 years, civilization stabilized into what it is today; a conglomeration of city-states and republics roughly allied, whose boundaries are mostly determined by geography. No longer was race or ethnicity a factor in global society – most races had become intermingled by now. No longer did countries fight over expendable natural resources; what they wanted most was food. No longer did men strive for power over each other; men sought merely to survive. And no longer was the human race the same as before.
